Could the £10 UK to US airfare become a reality soon?

Ryanair chief Michael O’Leary says flights to the US for less than £10 will be offered by the no frills airline when it buys the long-haul aircraft to make the cut price inaugural flights a reality.

O’Leary told the Irish Hotels Federation conference in Ireland recently that he would offer tickets to New York and Boston for €10 (approximately £8.20). Flights back to Europe would cost just €7.30.

However, any add-ons would be charged for, so passengers would pay extra for everything from meals and drinks to baggage.

The new Ryanair long haul aircraft will jet off from up to 14 major European cities to 12-14 destinations in the USA.

“We can make money on 99 cent fares in Europe. Not every seat will be €10 of course; there will also need to be a very high number of business or premium seats,” commented O’Leary.

For those ready to book a bargain, Ryanair says these flights would begin within six months of Ryanair buying the long-haul aircraft needed, but customers will have to wait a while, as it may take up to five years to purchase the larger planes needed for the new long haul routes.
